hooked on durians!

A post shared by Vivien Tan (@voguelyvivien) on

Just a month ago, my friends and I have been planning to check out the SS2Durian.Com stall. Coincidently that Tuesday, the Star newspaper reported that due to oversupply, durian prices are going down which I shared on my WhatsApp group. Less than an hour later, plans were made for the same night. While waiting for the rest of us to returned, Jaynie couldn't wait and went to check out the durians.

When we reached we were like OMG, there was so many people in the stall and queuing up! Obviously, we weren't the only one with the same grand idea. I later found out why _ the durians buffet, which initially priced at RM50 per person has gone down to just RM20 per person! That is super cheap!!

the queue omg..

While we were ushered to our seat in less than 30 minutes, because there are so many people, the staffs were so occupied trying to get durians to so many tables so many times we were left waiting.. I was suggesting to my friends that we ought to just choose our own durians and get a knife to open them.

Most of the durians are good, there are those which are dry and tasteless. After all, those are a mixture of durian kampung. While eating,we were also taking photos with BeautyCam app, my friend is obsessed with it! Here are some of the funny looking photos we took:

By the time we were done, I was already 110% stuffed but my friends had the heck to suggest to get Udon from the Family Mart nearby! While I didn't get the whole Udon for myself (shared with gal pal, Jaynie), I was so sick of eating literally! At night, while I was lying on my bed, I can feel the content of my gut turning X(

A few days later, I went and bought myself McD's D24 Durian McFlurry. Cost RM9 for a cup, I have to selfie with it hahahaha. Taste like the real thing but if I top up another RM11, I could have gone to another round of durian buffet in DurianSS2.Com. But I MUST have the ice cream!!!

~♡~

Two weeks later, I was back for more durians in SS2 with another bunch of friends. This time we headed to Brother Durian. Our initial choice was DurianSS2.Com but we didn't know the buffet only starts at 6:30PM.

So off we went to check out the other stalls and decided on Brother Durian buffet which cost RM38 per person, slightly higher than what we could get in DurianSS2.Com but has better selection of durians which include 101, Red Prawns and several others. For fans of bitter-sweet durians, this place is for you. I love how the durians are so much creamier and yellowish in flesh, so good!

My only problem is that the service was slow and the staffs were really good at pretending so to now attend to you which annoys me. Some were pretending to be busy doing I don't know what, we had to call the staffs multiple times before one bothered to assist. When I told my gal pals about this, one of them who had been to the same place told me she experienced the same. Most time, it was the one old uncle was the one who served us. At this stall, we also ordered an overpriced coconut juice for RM5 each. You can usually get sweeter and more affordable ones elsewhere.

Heading back to the car, my friend and I dropped by DurianSS2.Com to tapau some durians home. We Myself, I bought the XO variety because it's one of my favorite and they don't serve this for buffet since it is the 'branded' kind.

2018 Bon Odori in Shah Alam

Konnichiwa y'all!!!! Last weekend I attended the annual Bon Odori festival in Kompleks Sukan Negara, Shah Alam. My second time in 2 consecutive years! This time, I brought my friends along with me, took me months to brainwash them. Anyways, since I am cheapo, I opted to take the KTM to the Shah Alam Station then board the free bus chartered specifically for the event. Another reason was because I am aware with events like this, traffic tend to be really bad and I don't really want to spend time stuck on the road!

My friends and I arrived about 5PM, just half-an-hour when the premise was open for visitors. I wanted to spend the evening before dawn exploring the stalls before the crowd swells. The last time I was here it was also too dark to navigate around but this time it appears to be well lighted up.

Was messing around and stuffed all our fans behind my friend Fannie lol

First thing we did after some photos was to look for food! For starters (ceh wah), I recommended this Hokkaido ice cream to my friends. They're RM10 each at the event. I was told the usual price is RM13 for the Yuzu flavor and RM15 for the sea salt flavor, so worth it!

After that, I spotted some squids so decided to get the grilled squid in BBQ sauce. Very yummy!

Jac got us some German sausages.

Then more ice creams serve on thin waffle shaped in squares.

Later that evening, I bought some tempero because I was hungry. These are basically what I managed to get from stalls that didn't have long queues. At some stalls, the line was so long I wasn't in the mood to queue LOL

From this point on, I'll let the photos do the talking.

Tadom Hills Resorts in Banting & other things I've been up to in June

Just when I thought I should rest after my mini Cameron Highlands trip, I received an announcement that my team (at work) will be going to Tadom Hill Resort in Banting as part of our team building session. The news came like just a few days after Cameron Highlands and a day before I am attending my friend's Indian wedding. No wonder I've been feeling tired these days!

Before heading to Tadom Hill for fun time we first had lunch at Dengkil Seafood Restaurant, a two-storey Chinese restaurant in Banting.

We ordered steamed fresh water fish, stir fried vegetables in a yam basket, shrimp omelette, stir fry Vietnamese lettuce (I think!) and fried cuttlefish rings in salted egg sauce.

Getting to Tadom Hill Resorts

After food, we headed to Tadom Hill Resorts, which is about 15 minutes or less, further from the restaurant. I supposed the only way available is via car or Grab/Uber. The road is very narrow and nearing the resort, bumpy for buses.

Admission Fee & What activities to do

For RM22 per person and a refundable deposit of RM50, you can use facilities such as the giant jenga, bamboo raft and the list goes on!

Available facilities can be used for a fee as below.

Safety vest is also included into the fee and a must when you're planning to dive or even climb on the platform. I was reprimanded for not wearing one when I climbed up the platform even though my intention was simply to snap some photos. I definitely wasn't planning to stand too close to the edge but the staff has a point. According to my colleagues who jumped into the lake, it is very deep so you have been warned!

Tip #1: Try to avoid going on Fridays as the staffs have Friday prayers to attend to which means the resort only opens after 2:30PM. If unavoidable, go later in the evening!

Tip #2: Go with sandals. A lot of time you will be needing to remove your shoes and all the sands will get into them.

I find the facilities there quite decent, the washrooms and toilets are clean so no worries about having to bath and change after leaping into the lake!

For rental of ping pong rackets, volley balls or futsal ball, deposits are required. Most importantly, while small, this place is so Instagram-worthy!

~~

Too happening these days, so I decided to include the other things I have been up to in the same blog posts because there are so many other posts to come!

TTDI Ramadhan Market shopping

I love visiting Ramadhan!! This year, I have dropped by the Pasar Ramadhan thrice _ twice in TTDI's and another in Bukit Bintang. Wished I could have gone to the market more often!

My favorite Tepung Pelita. Managed to purchase them the second time I visited the Ramadhan market. The first time they were sold out!

Some random photos I took of 1Utama's Hari Raya decor. It's so pretty!!

Celebrating Dragon Boat Festival with rice dumplings

Don't know why this year gotta be the year I eat a lot of dumpling because my parents dropped by and they bought me chang. A week later, my hommies brought back some homemade Hokkien-style chang she made with her grandmother. Feeling super thankful!
